On my desk

I realised today that apart from "on my desk" posts I haven´t been posting too much.

Well, it´s the usual reason: I´ve been working hard for a project for a group of architects here in Buenos Aires and at this point everything is under a secrecy blanket. It´s due for next week, so then i´ll be freer to do more illustration and those little papercuts I´m already missing by now.

At the same time, i´m enjoying hanging out with my parents. We flew to Ushuaia and it was great. Now they´re visiting the glaciers in Calafate, which I´ve been to in December.

I must say that the services provided to tourists in Argentina are not ideal, sometimes they´re even very far from it, but the landscape is so gorgeous that it´s totally worth to ignore everything else and come here (some photos on my other blog).

On another topic, I´m working on (sewing, hand-sewing: a labour of patience) a little something for my niece (for my parents to take when they fly back to Portugal next Sunday). It´s on my desk, on Wednesday.

See more desks here.

I´ll be absent for a little longer: while everyone in the northern hemisphere is celebrating the arrival of Spring, we´re now officially entering Fall season.

Even more so because we´re flying out to Ushuaia, in Tierra del Fuego, where the american continent ends. Though it will be cold there, at least as cold as what my Winters are normally like, I´m so happy to go and see a new part of Argentina, this beautiful and huge country.

Happy Easter if you do celebrate it, happy Spring or happy Autumn! Well, simply put, happy weekend!

On my desk... nothing!

I´m sorry to disappoint those of you readers who enjoy seeing pictures of desks, on Wednesday. Today there´s no photo from my desk, just this very short post to say that although I´m thinking of you I´m not staying long enough to take a picture and post it. My parents are visiting and we have some tourist work to do!

It´s a good reason for my absence, right?

Thanks for stopping by and see you next week!

On my desk, on Wednesday...

Not a tidy desk, this one. :)

There are some papercuts, my day planner, knitting needles and the usual stuff.

Hmmm... should I tidy up or should I work now? (preferably singing it along with "The Clash"´s tune...)

You can see links to other desks on kootoyoo´s blog.

Back to school | Regresso às aulas

Well, "back to school" is a way of putting it. Really, I´m back to german class, after the summer break. I´m happy about it because somehow this incredibly logical language is like assembling a puzzle or solving a sudoku game. At least, that´s how I see it.

And here´s the papercut illustration to celebrate it!

Making of "Garden"

I posted some photos here about the "making of" yesterday´s "Garden" papercut, along with some directions. Enjoy!

Illustration Friday: Garden

Here it is, my illustration for Illustration Friday this week´s topic: Garden.

It´s a papercut and it took me some hours to complete, along with a sore neck. But I´m very happy with the result!

On my desk, on Wednesday

Well, after seeing what´s on other desks (kootoyoo´s and loobylu´s, here´s what´s on mine: sketch book, planner, laptop, my dear and precious tablet and some books on the corner.

Happy Wednesday to everyone!

(and I´m still having trouble with the K key!)

Lately| Ultimamente

kkkkkkk

(this is me trying to put the "K" key back into its place on the keyboard. See how many "kk" I had to type to write the previous sentence? Well, it meant that the "K" came out again. Aaargh.)

I´ve been working almost exclusively on a children´s book I´m illustrating for a friend of mine in Madrid. The text is hers, the illustrations are mine. Cross your fingers (I´ll cross mine very hard) and we´ll hopefully have good news in the near future. But because it is still "secret", I really can´t show images of it right now. And I can´t wait to do so!!!!

There were also some good news: I designed a group of three posters for a team of architects. They were the team´s project presentation on a contest. Guess what, they were selected to next round, in a group of six out of more than thirty! That was really good news and we all celebrated them as such.

What´s also new is that I finally gathered myself to be disciplined enough to have (and keep) a sketch book (I keep having trouble with the letter K everytime I need to type it!). When I was in school and later in university, we had to keep one. I guess that the fact that we had to had to be purged out of my body not keeping one for a really long time, though I knew how useful they were and what a resource they grow into. But still, I was too lazy and too disorganised. Well, that has changed, as of two weeks ago. I have a really nice sketch book (Moleskine with normal paper, not watercolour, at least not in this sketchbook, I mean!), in a very handy size (about 14cm x 9cm, but to be sure I´d have to measure it) and with the very handy elastic band to hold it closed. Love it. I like to keep it simple so I write on it with a regular pen or soft pencil. And I´m happy about it. I don´t actually love whatever I write on it but I´m glad I finally made myself keep one for more than... a week? (Oh, why do I need to type so many KK? Shall I just surrender to the fact that this time the key seems not to go back into place?)

Well, my knitting is going alright as well. Sometimes I wish I´d knit faster, but then I remind myself that I do it for the sake of doing it, which means: seeing something you make grow to be a finished piece of clothing (or something else) that I can use or give to someone I love. And it is instant relaxation for mind and body because my head just wanders off and my body relaxes. It´s great to have new ideas too, I guess they come to my head because I´m so relaxed.

And now I must prepare for yoga class. Finally going back, after the summer months. Yay!

Ela escreveu o texto, eu estou a fazer as ilustrações.

Ajuda muito lembrar-me disto, acreditem...

Vivaaaa!
